


DR. PATRICK HERMINIE
PRESIDENT, UNITED SEYCHELLES PARTY
Presidential Candidate for the 2025 election
Patrick Herminie was born on 22nd September 1963, at Baie St. Anne, Praslin Hospital. As a young boy, Dr. Patrick Herminie attended Seychelles College.
After completing his O Levels and A Levels at Seychelles College, Patrick went on to do his Doctorate in General Medicine at Charles University in Prague, Czechoslovakia, which he completed in 1990.
After completing his Doctorate in General Medicine, he was appointed Medical Officer at Victoria Hospital in 1990. In 1993, he was awarded the Chevening Award by the British government, and he went on to complete his master’s degree in Public Health at the Nuffield Institute, University of Leeds in England.
After returning to Seychelles, Dr. Patrick Herminie was appointed Director General of Disease Prevention and Control in the Ministry of Health in 1996.
In 1998 he was appointed Director General of the Primary Health Care in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Patrick Herminie started his political career in 1992 as a member of the commission which drafted the Constitution of the Third Republic. He was thrice elected member of the National Assembly for the district of English River (in 1993, 1998, and 2002). He became the leader of government business (majority leader) from 1998 to 2007. He was Speaker of the National Assembly from 2007 to 2016.
In 2004, Dr. Herminie decided to pursue a career as a full-time politician, but had to temporarily stop in 2016 when Parti Lepep lost the Legislative election. Dr. Herminie was, by then, the Speaker of the National Assembly. From 2016 to 2020 he served as Secretary of State for the Prevention of Drug Abuse and Rehabilitation.
Seychelles was by then faced with an unprecedented epidemic of heroin addiction, Dr. Herminie headed the newly created agency (APDAR) to deal with the problem head on.
Following the defeat of United Seychelles in the 2020 elections, Dr. Patrick Herminie took up the challenge of ensuring the continuity of the Party. In 2021 he was elected President to lead the United Seychelles in the 2025 elections.

Brief History
The United Seychelles (US) is a progressive political party presently the main opposition party in the Seychelles. Established in 1964 as the Seychelles People's United Party (SPUP) by the founder leader
Mr. France Albert René, the party fought primarily for the independence of Seychelles from British colonial rule and promoted an agenda for social justice and equality through social reforms, emphasising on a people centred development approach. The party rebranded from SPUP to SPPF (Seychelles People's Progressive Front) in 1978, then Parti Lepep in 2011 and now US but remains committed to its core principles. The party governed Seychelles for 43 years until 2020 following defeat in the general elections and currently holds ten seats in the National Assembly.
